Judge Mazzant has worked on NFL cases in the past. In 2017, he blocked the suspension of Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott under the Personal Conduct Policy.

Irvin was pulled from all of ESPN and NFL Network's coverage of the Super Bowl after these allegations surfaced.

Marriott has not revealed the identity of the accuser or released the hotel's video surveillance tapes, despite requests from both the district court and Irvin's legal team.
